The Style Edit: What a Sold-Out Flight to Detroit Taught Me About Packing
I flew to Detroit for the first time last week. First class, my first time in that seat, and the flight was sold out. Over 400 people, on a route to Detroit, while every headline says fuel costs are up and the economy is supposedly pulling back. That's not what I saw at the gate. I saw movement. People flying for work, for family, for opportunity, regardless of what the cost-of-travel headlines were saying that week.
That's the same lesson we keep coming back to in Real Estate Spotlight: the data everyone quotes lags behind what's actually happening on the ground. A packed gate is its own kind of infrastructure signal, and this week Dubai's Arabian Travel Market pulled over 55,000 travel professionals into one building to talk about exactly that, where global travel is headed next. Movement is the story right now, not the slowdown.
So this week's edit is built for that: the business trip with no checked bag. Cold cabin, corporate, still classy. A blazer that doesn't wrinkle sitting in a middle seat for three hours. One pair of shoes that works from the meeting to the dinner after. A bag structured enough to carry a laptop without looking like it's carrying a laptop. Packing for one carry-on isn't a limitation, it's a discipline, and it's one of the more useful ones I've built into how I travel for business now.
